The following PATS MECOR prizes were awarded for 2011

Small Grant Award
Dr. Alphonus Isara and team were awarded £1800 for the project:
'Paper questionnaire versus mobile phone technology in a survey of airflow obstruction in two African countries

Dr. Kingsley Ukwaja was awarded £1800 for the project:
'
'What is the prevalence of respiratory symptoms and abnormal ventilatory function among Nigerian rice millers?’

Writing Prize Winners
Dr. Kingsley Ukwaja was awarded £100 for the papers:

‘The economic burden of tuberculosis care for patients and households in Africa: a systematic review ‘ and ‘Trends in Treatment Outcome of Smear-Positive Pulmonary Tuberculosis in Ebonyi, Southeastern Nigeria, 1999 – 2008’

Dr. Adebolajo Adeyemo was awarded £1000 for the project:
'Indoor air pollution and prevalence of upper respiratory tract symptoms in South West Nigeria'

Dr. Adebola E. Orimadegun was awarded £1000 for the project:
'Smokeless tobacco use and cigarette smoking among school-going adolescents in Ilisan-Remo, Nigeria'

Dr. Kingsley Ukwaja was awarded £1000 for the project:
'The economic burden of Tuberculosis care for patients and their households in Nigeria'


Writing Prize Winners

Dr. Adeniyi Bamidele was awarded £100 for the paper:

"Health-related quality of life among patients with bronchial asthma in Ile-Ife, a semi-urban population in south-western Nigeria"

Dr. Ezekiel Machira was awared £100 for the paper;

"Assessment of correctness of inhalation technique among asthmatic children and their caretakers at the Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya"

Dr. A E Orimadegun was awarded £100 for the paper:

"Knowledge and views of paediatricians about pulse oximetry: a nationwide on-line survey in Nigeria"

The above papers were published in the March 2011 edition of the African Journal of Respiratory Medicine, which is available on-line
